Civil defence conference looks at cutting down volume of accidents, risks

Muscat: The second edition of 'Oman Civil Defence and Ambulance Conference and Exhibition' kicked off on Monday under the auspices of Lt Gen Hasan bin Mohsin al Shraiqi, Inspector General of Police and Customs.


The two-day event, titled 'Security and Safety of Establishments' discussed the latest studies and research in the field of security and safety of establishments. The conference is organised by the Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance in cooperation with strategic partners, institutions and companies. It included a presentation on innovative equipment, services and technologies used in civil defence and ambulance services.


The event is aimed at cutting down the volume of accidents and risks to public safety, to help save lives and properties. The conference includes three workshops that focus on the following topics: 'First aids taught by life skills teachers at educational institutions', 'security and safety measures to be applied by school bus drivers' and 'safety procedures to be maintained by those interested in adventure tourism'.



The conference was attended by 350 participants from military and security agencies, administrative units of the state, and the private sector, as well as academics and researchers in the field of security and safety.


Colonel Abdullah bin Saleh al Najashi, Director General of Civil Defence at the authority, emphasised the role of the civil defence system in protecting lives, and properties, and achieving public safety, highlighting the importance of the awareness message provided. "Both the conference and exhibition aim to raise awareness about the safety and security of facilities and discuss the best international practices in this field, as well as occupational health requirements, through presentations by academics, specialists, and experts," he said.



Subsequently, Lt Gen Al Shraiqi inaugurated the exhibition, which includes sections for the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority. During the inauguration, several advanced vehicles in the field of civil defence and ambulance services, search and rescue devices and equipment, as well as safety technologies related to artificial intelligence, were showcased.


Colonel Dr Ahmed bin Saif al Jahwari, Senior Consultant and Head of Spinal Surgery at the Armed Forces Hospital, presented the first workshop. Al Jahwari discussed important aspects of strategic leadership in healthcare and its impact on sustainable development, addressing aspects in which strategic leadership systems are formed while Colonel Dr Hamad bin Abdullah al Hammadi, Director General of Ambulance, presented a workshop on emergency medical services and the envisioned reality of sustainable national services.
