Muscat: The second Oman Civil Defence and Ambulance Conference and Exhibition concluded with recommendations aimed at strengthening the capabilities and services provided by the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority.

The participants called for the strengthening of financial and human resources and the provision of modern equipment to improve the authority's response to various challenges and risks, especially in light of climate change.

In this context, the participants recommended the need for close monitoring of the entry of hazardous materials and emphasising the safety and security of their use and storage.

They stressed the need to train adventure teams and raise awareness of the need to comply with sound procedures and safety according to the regulations governing them.

The recommendations emphasised the importance of regular maintenance of facilities and ensuring that materials and electrical connections comply with approved specifications to avoid accidents. This is in addition to the importance of teaching swimming to members of society, especially school students and members of sports clubs, by intensifying practical training programmes.

In the field of health, the recommendations focused on the need to pay attention to all aspects of prevention of heart diseases and strokes, which are among the leading causes of death in the Sultanate of Oman.

They also pointed to the importance of a rapid response to reports of these cases by the ambulance service crews of the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority. They emphasised the importance of training members of society on CPR skills and the use of the automated external defibrillator (AED).

In the framework of public health, the recommendations called for the development of a comprehensive health strategy compatible with Oman Vision 2040 and the Sustainable Development Goals 2030, to achieve integration between healthcare institutions.

They also called for the coordination of joint efforts between the relevant authorities to provide ideal healthcare and achieve a comprehensive emergency services system. The recommendations stressed the importance of enacting legislation related to safety and security risk management and strengthening the human capacities working in this sector through internationally accredited training and qualification programmes, and developing academic programmes and specialisations in cooperation with higher education institutions.
