MUSCAT: Oman's Tah Alharrasi snatched the silver medal in the 100m race on the opening day of the Paralympic Grand Prix Athletics Championships, in Marrakech, Morocco. The event is held from April 26 to 29, under the supervision of the Paralympic Committee.


Al Harrasi managed to reach second place in the 100m after completing the race distance in 12.52 seconds, while Malaysian Mohamed Buzi took first place after completing the race distance in 12.65 seconds.


The national team para athletes including Taha al Harrasi and Mohammed al Mashaiki, under the supervision of coach Sonia Mustafa, were in the training preparation to take part in the long jump competitions. The participating delegation also includes physiotherapist Hani al Shamakhi and the delegation is headed by Adnan al Owaidi, a member of the Omani Paralympic Committee.

Al Oaidi, head of the delegation participating in the competitions, said that the competition is strong and the national team player's silver medal in the 100m is a good start and we look forward to the results continuing in the upcoming competitions to achieve qualifying numbers.


Al Oaidi indicated that the championship is one of the major events in the calendar of the International Paralympic Committee as it is a qualifier for the next Paralympic Games in France in 2024. The players participating in this championship were chosen based on the qualifying numbers they obtained in previous competitions, adding that the championship is attended by 64 countries from around the world, with more than 400 players and players competing in various classifications.


Coach Sonia Mustafa indicated the readiness of the players to compete and win first place.
