People join hands with authorities for clean-up

People joined hands with the Civil Defence and Ambulances Authority (CDAA), the Royal Oman Police (ROP) and Muscat municipality in removing the debris and cleaning the premises that were devastated by the recent rains in wilayats such as Suhar, Shinas, Saham and Liwa.


In Suhar, the Takaful Charitable Team, in cooperation with ROP and the Engineering Services of the Royal Army of Oman, and a large number of volunteers removed mud and debris in several areas of the Wilayat. The campaign which began on Thursday continued till Saturday.


They came together over the weekend taking shovels, pumps, mops and other tools to make the houses inhabitable, farms and roads usable.


The Municipality Department in Saham along with volunteers removed mud, sand an rocks to facilitate traffic as well as cleaned homes, mosques and cemeteries. They used lorries, shovels and dredging machines to clear the debris from the public areas and houses in the villages during the campaign. They also supplied food, mattresses and blankets to the people affected.


Speaking to the observer, Mazin Abu al Hawari, a social media influencer who took part in the campaign, said that volunteers in large numbers came together with the mission of cleaning their villages, schools, mosques and other places.


“Several youngsters as well as elders took part in a national campaign in cooperation with the ROP and the Royal Army of Oman and other agencies and we are able to bring these villages back to normalcy," he said.


“There are many situations in which the Omani youth have proven that they are the arms of the nation, and they are the ones who stood by whenever there is a natural emergency and we are confident that our youth is fully dedicated to the nation building process,” a senior citizen said.


University students from many wilayats of the Sultanate of Oman participated in the campaign and they volunteered to repair the damages inside the homes of the affected.
