Muscat :The Hawiyat Najm Park in the Wilayat of Qurayat will be set for a one-week closure due to some technical works, Muscat Municipality said on Thursday.


In a statement, the civic body said, 'The Hawiyat Najm is going to undergo a temporary shutdown due to some maintenance works, which is scheduled to take place from December 7 -14'.


Hawiyat Najm, situated between the towns of Bimmah and Dibab, it is ideal for swimming and enjoying the beautiful landscape of the region. The municipality has created the Hawiyat Najm Park that surrounds the Bimmah Sinkhole as a form of protecting the attraction.


Visitors passing through the area often stop there for a few hours of respite from the scorching sun.


According to the local folklore, the Hawiyat Najm (Fallen Star), or Bimmah Sinkhole as it is more popularly known, was created by a meteor that crashed into the region thus forming the deep crater.
