Red Warriors coach Silhavy commences tasks

Oman’s newly-appointed national football team head coach, Jaroslav Silhavy, began his tasks as technical manager, after he led the Red Warriors’ opening training sessions on Tuesday at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher.


The first official match of the national team under supervision of the Czech coach will be against Malaysia in the joint qualifiers for World Cup 2026 and Asian Cup 2027, as Oman team will meet Malaysia twice in the third and fourth round of the double qualifiers respectively. The Red Warriors will take on Malaysia in Muscat on March 21, and then will play away in Kuala Lumpur on March 26.


The ongoing domestic camp is part of the team’s preparation to play twice against Malaysia in same month. During the training session late on Tuesday, coach Jaroslav Silhavy began the gathering with a welcoming message to all the players who joined in the squad. The 62 years old requested all the players to deliver their top efforts during the warm up gathering in order to end the camp with optimum technical outcomes ahead of the crucial games against Malaysia. The camp will continue by having more training sessions in the forthcoming days during the evening time, as it is the best convenient timing during the holy month of Ramadhan.


All the selected players by coach Silhavy attended the first sessions except Al Nahdha’s goalie Ibrahim al Mukhaini who will join on Thursday, and Abdullah Fawaz who will join the camp on Friday. The opening training session started with some physical exercises to raise the fitness level of the players. Then, the coaching staff which feature from Chytry Jiri, Ali al Khanbashi and Venglarick Peter as assistant coaches, focused on the technical and tactics trainings. Before the end of the training sessions, the national team players distributed into two groups to have an internal match among them to implement the learned tactics.

Oman is gearing up for the third and fourth games in the Asian joint qualifiers for the AFC Asian Cup and Fifa World Cup in group D, which featured Malaysia, Kyrgyzstan and Chinese Taipei. The national team’s campaign started with a 2-0 win against Chinese Taipei but then shocked with a 1-0 defeat against Kyrgyzstan in Bishkek in their second match.


Oman team, under the new coaching staff, will eye on a different show and beginning a new chapter that will ensure the team’s presence in the top footballing event represented in Fifa World Cup 2026.
