MUSCAT: Under the auspices of Dr Madeeha bint Ahmed al Shaibaniyah, Minister of Education, Oman School Sports Association (OSSA) organised the association's annual ceremony in JW Marriott Hotel in Muscat.
The under-secretaries of the Ministry of Education, the general directors, supporting companies, heads of sports federations and sports activities specialists in educational governorates attended the event.
Dr Abdullah bin Khamis Ambusaidi , Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Education for Education and Chairman of OSSA, said, “we welcome all of you, as we celebrate the achievements of the Oman School Sports Association. Since OSSA was formed in 2016, it has undertaken the task of promoting school sports and spreading its culture, as OSSA's goals focus on school students, who are an important segment in any society.”
“Students are characterised by unlimited ambition and constant ability to learn and practice. In addition, it is in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, the 10th five-year development plan 2021-2025 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030,” he added.
The top achievement for OSSA was the title of Arab School Football Championship, which was organised by the Arab Federation for Physical Education and School Sports in Egypt.
The OSSA has succeeded in organising various sports competitions during the past academic years. These programmes were distributed to include different ages of male and female students in different educational levels, also included various sports such as athletics, football, basketball, volleyball, handball, fencing, taekwondo, chess, badminton and other sports.
In addition to the ideal weight challenge programme that began in Muscat Governorate schools, and the unified school sports day, Shewayat Reyadha (little sport), which is one of the most widespread and interactive programmes for students, teachers and all segments of society.
The OSSA holds various sports festivals, the sailing championship and other tournaments adopted by private sector companies in cooperation with the association.
At the end of the ceremony, Dr Madeeha bint Ahmed al Shaibaniyah honoured more than 100 people representing the companies, institutions, federations, collaborators, sports activities specialists and participants in the Sports Programme.
The honour also included a number of students who made achievements in sports externally. Daisam al Dalhami, Hajan al Asi, Ayham al Hassani and Nihaya al Saadi shined in athletics competitions.
Israa al Siyabi, Ahmed Kaskas, Al Harith al Harithy, Saeed al Shuaibi, Salma al Daghaishi, Jana al Sharji, Ali al Busaidy, Ammar al Azizi and Ghazal al Falita excelled in fencing.
In sailing, Mohab bin Salim al Harithy, Joud al Balushi, Tamim al Balushi, Firas al Nabhani, Saud al Shaqsi, Hassan al Wahaibi and Hatim al Araimi reached the podium.
