Over 100 educational institutions participate in GHEDEX

MUSCAT: The 23rd Global Higher Education Exhibition (GHEDEX) was opened under the auspices of His Highness Sayyid Dr Kamel bin Fahd al Said


on Sunday at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre. The event hosts more than 100 Omani and international universities, colleges, institutes, schools and educational institutions.


The two-day exhibition includes several events, including the schools exhibition Edu And GEDEX dialogues, in addition to the Youth Community Department in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth.


The Silah Initiative, one of the highlights that aims at helping the deaf group benefit from the exhibition’s services and interact with its activities, was launched.


They were given guided tours with the participation of a number of sign language speakers, in addition to providing workshops for those wishing to learn the basics of sign language. This will also stimulate participating entities to develop strategies and visions to integrate the deaf community into the educational sector by providing study programs and courses.


The organisers said that the exhibition is an opportunity for many internationally accredited universities, colleges and academic institutions to enhance such forums and communication between academics, students and parents, and is considered an interactive platform for job seekers and employment and professional institutions.


“The exhibition is organised by the ‘Arab House for Data Analysis’ in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Labour, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, and the Omani Authority for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Education,” he said.


GHEDEX is held under the patronage of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation (MoHERI), Ministry of Education (MoE), and the Ministry of Labor (MoL). Besides Oman, universities and colleges from more than 16 countries including the UK, the US, and France, Malaysia, Japan and Lithuania are making their presence felt with a range of educational offers for the visitors.


Speaking to Observer, Hamed al Tamami, Executive Board member of Ahmed bin Majid International School (ABM) said that the local demand for quality education has been on the rise and the success of the GHEDEX clearly indicates this.

Prof Ingrida Janulevičienė, Dean, International Relations and Study Center and Head of Outpatient Department of the Eye Clinic of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Hospital said that the University’s presence makes a big difference as students from Oman and elsewhere are still an untapped sector for overseas studies.


“We are keen to participate in the Ghedex for Lithuania is an ideal destination for studies including medical sciences and management studies among others. The cost-effective, international reputed curricula, vibrant weather and geopolitical scenario are some of the attractions of our country which we are pretty sure, has a take on the visitors in Oman,” she said.


GHEDEX has always been an annual opportunity for local universities and colleges, accredited international universities and academic institutes to interact, recruit and connect with students, parents, officials and other academic representatives from Oman. GHEDEX also enjoys continuous success and growth in building Oman’s Human Capital Development.
