MUSCAT: The seventh edition of Al Bashayer festival for Purebred Arabian Camel Racing 2024 will be held at Al Bashayer Square in the Wilayat of Adam from February 12 to 17. The annual festival is considered as one of the most important sporting events held annually in the Sultanate of Oman, attracting a large number of camel owners and trainers across the GCC countries.
Al Bashayer annual event is supported by His Highness Sayyid Asaad bin Tarik al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs, Personal Representative of His Majesty the Sultan.
HH Sayyid Assad said: “The annual Al Bashayer Festival for Arabian Camel Racing is considered one of the most prominent camel race festivals in Oman and GCC countries, which is supported by the government of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. The event is to encourage young people to adhere to values, customs, traditions and heritage.”
“Al Bashayer Festival of camel racing was and still one of the most important sporting, cultural and social forums in Oman and GCC countries because of the honourable sporting competition and shared cultural values that are evident in the spirit of love and brotherhood between camel owners and trainers," he added.
Sayyid Asaad continued, “The festival seeks to consolidate economic sustainability among some segments of society participating in various tasks, which provides multiple economic opportunities aimed at enhancing the development movement in the region as a whole. This is in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, which aim to create innovative economic opportunities for the local economy characterised by diversity and sustainability.”
“In solidarity with Palestine who are in a humanitarian crisis, we have decided to reduce some of the accompanying events and programmes, which is in line with the approach of Oman and its position on the crisis.”
"We also extend our greetings to all camel owners at the institutional or individual level, and we appreciate their great interest in camels and their optimal preparation for an honourable appearance in the race and on the podiums.”
YEAR OF CAMEL
"We have followed with interest the announcement of the United Nations to designate 2024 as a year for camels around the world out of belief and the keenness of this all-embracing international institution to pay attention to and preserve this national wealth in its original places. Therefore, we are pleased that Al Bashayer Square is one of the government institutions that will host the events for the 'Year of the Camel' aimed at introducing this national wealth.”
“Here I renew my invitation to all institutions and individuals in Oman and GCC countries, to participate in the Al Bashayer Festival for Purebred Arabian Camel Racing, the festival which we are proud to hold on this good land,” he concluded.
The Al Bashayer camel festival 2024 will be held for six days with Oman and GCC participants, competing in 74 rounds in different categories for valuable prizes, 20 cars and 15 icons including the Cups, golden and silver swords.
