

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism has embarked on a project for the reconstruction of the historic Seeb Castle.
Considered as a significant historic and heritage landmark that stood the test of time for consecutive epochs, the Seeb Castle will regain its former glory after the completion of the reconstruction project.
Eng Amjad bin Ahmed al Mukhalladi, Director of Restoration and Maintenance at the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, said that at the end of 2023, the ministry issued a tender to rebuild Seeb Castle. The project was assigned to one of the companies specialised in restoration work for historical landmarks. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.
The official pointed out that before the start of the project, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism carried out excavation work on the castle’s foundation. The Seeb Castle is considered as one of the historical castles and was historically linked to important events. The reconstruction of this landmark will constitute a historical significance for the Wilayat of Al Seeb and will introduce future generations to its glorious past.
The project involves the construction of four chambers and the external facilities. The Seeb Castle is situated near the Seeb Market. The Wilayat of Al Seeb is distinguished by its many forts, towers, fortification walls and archaeological landmarks which are among the major tourist attractions of Muscat Governorate.
