As the name suggests, Al Khaburah Castle is situated in the Wilayat of Al Khaburah, less than two kilometres from the heart of Suhar. In a bygone era, it served as a legal court, featuring imposing clay brick walls measuring 53 meters in length and 24 meters in width. The architectural layout encompasses various chambers designed to house guards and visitors, a dedicated space for the storage of provisions and weaponry, as well as two luxurious quarters for the governor.

The castle boasts two distinct towers, one circular with a diameter of 7.5 meters, perched in the southeast corner, and another rectangular tower of equal width, occupying the opposite corner. The principal gateway to the fortress is situated on its northern flank, flanked by two historic cannons. In 1994, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism embarked on the painstaking process of restoring this iconic landmark.

It was Jumah al Shehhi who understood the importance of the castle, a dormant yet historical edifice that had long been forgotten.

With the noble objective of augmenting tourism revenues, diversifying income streams, and rekindling interest in the nation's historical sites, the Al Khaburah Castle has been repurposed to host an array of innovative projects that cater to the community and beckon tourists.

The project's offerings include a restaurant and café that serve a wide variety of delectable dishes, affording visitors the opportunity to savor a memorable culinary experience within the castle's storied walls.

Furthermore, a library designed to accommodate individuals from all walks of life, provides an enchanting space for students to read and study.

In a heartwarming nod to Oman's productive families, a designated area has been set aside for them to showcase and sell their wares, fostering a sense of unity and support within the Omani community.

The castle also features an atelier that showcases exquisite artwork crafted by Omanis. This space doubles as a unique platform for artists to exhibit and sell their creations.

To elevate the experience further, a dedicated area within the castle offers expert-led Arabic calligraphy lessons, adding an artistic dimension to the overall ambience.

Given its historical significance, a dedicated space has been allocated to celebrate heritage crafts, spotlighting Omani artistry, including intricate pottery and traditional palm leaf weaving.

Despite the numerous challenges faced during its restoration, the project garnered unwavering support from both the government and the local community, who recognized the importance of preserving one of Al Khaburah's most significant historical structures. Moreover, the project has opened doors to employment opportunities for numerous Omanis.
