Al Bashayer, Nizwa post wins in OBL

The second round matches in the Oman Basketball League 2023-24 delivered thrilling results as Al Bashayer dominated Oman Club with a 108-50 victory, while Nizwa emerged triumphant against Dhofar by 70-55. The games took place at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher on Tuesday.


In the first match, Al Bashayer's comprehensive win against Oman Club enabled them to top spot of OBL with 21 points.


Al Bashayer started the match aggressively and took the lead through Ahmed al Hilali, who scored five points. From a quick attack, Oman Club's Hussain al Kindi scored two points after a shot from under the basket. Al Bashayer responded by scoring six points. Then, Fahd al Ajmi of Oman Club managed to score two points. The excitement continued with attacks from Al Bashayer, where they scored eight points. The back-and-forth attacks allowed both teams to score, ending the first quarter with Al Bashayer leading 27-13.


In the second quarter, Al Bashayer continued to dominate the game. They scored five points with a basket from Hadeed Beit Bukhait and a three-pointer from Mahmoud al Souli. Oman Club then scored two points with a basket from Omar al Hasani. The offensive attempts continued between the two teams, with Al Bashayer adding 25 points while Oman Club only scored six points. The first half ended with Al Bashayer leading 57-21.


In the third quarter, Al Bashayer maintained pressure on Oman Club, and their players managed to score points, extending the lead. Al Bashayer added 33 points, while Oman Club scored 13 points. The third quarter ended with Al Bashayer leading 80-34.


In the fourth quarter, Al Bashayer added 18 points, while Oman Club scored 16 points, resulting in Al Bashayer winning the match against Oman Club with a score of 108-50.


The match was officiated by international referees Rashid al Mushaifri as the first referee, Ali al Sulaimani as the second referee and Wafa al Sumairi as the third referee.


On the table were Muneera al Numani, Yaqoub al Nadabi, and Fatma al Harthy.


NIZWA PREVAIL


In the second match, Nizwa prevailed over Dhofar 70-55. The winners dominated all four quarters of the match.


With this result, Nizwa jumped to third spot with 16 points. Dhofar started the scoring with Ayman al Tuwairshi and Nizwa responded with a three-pointer from Qassim al Qasimi, taking the lead 3-2. The excitement continued with Dhofar scoring two points through Marwan al Balushi, leading 4-3. The teams continued exchanging attacks and scoring, with Nizwa scoring 10 points, while Dhofar added 8 points. The first quarter ended with Nizwa leading 13-12.


In the second quarter, Nizwa increased their efforts, and their players applied significant pressure on Dhofar's court. Nizwa scored 20 points, while Dhofar scored 9 points. The first half ended with Nizwa leading 33-21.


In the third quarter, the game continued with back-and-forth attacks. Nizwa added 19 points, while Dhofar scored 17 points. The third quarter ended with Nizwa leading 52-38.


In the fourth quarter, Nizwa managed to extend their lead and double the score by scoring 18 points, while Dhofar scored 17 points. The match ended with Nizwa winning by 70- 55.


The match was officiated by international referee Thani al Khalasi as the first referee, Majid al Akhzami as the second referee and Mazen al Hilali as the third referee. On the table were Mahmoud al Ajmi, Mai al Khabouri and Shareefa al Zadjali.
