MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman is taking part in the 44th GCC Summit which will be held in the Qatari capital Doha tomorrow (Tuesday).

The Sultanate of Oman’s delegation will be headed by His Highness Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers.

As part of its presidency of the 43rd session of the GCC Supreme Council, the Sultanate of Oman hosted the meetings of the GCC ministerial committees which contribute to strengthening cooperation between the GCC countries in various political, economic, commercial, security and defence fields to enhance the process of the GCC joint action.

The Sultanate of Oman hosted the 43rd extraordinary session of GCC foreign ministers which dealt with the developments in the Gaza Strip. The meeting stressed support for the steadfastness of the Palestinian people on their land and cautioned against any attempts to displace them. It called on all the conflicting parties to protect civilians, refrain from targeting them and abide by international law and international humanitarian law without exception.

The GCC Summit stems its importance from the fact that it comes at a particularly sensitive stage in light of the crises and unrest that the world and the region are witnessing including the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip and the fall of tens of thousands of martyrs and wounded at a time when the GCC countries are intensifying their efforts to confront regional and international challenges, support peace, spread stability and end the war and aggression against Gaza.

The 158th session of the Preparatory Ministerial Council for the 44th session of the GCC Supreme Council in Doha was held on Monday. It dealt with many files of GCC joint cooperation in various fields including the agendas that will be submitted to the Supreme Council meeting along with the recommendations that will enhance the GCC march in a way that achieves greater progress and development for the GCC member states and strengthens the foundations of security and stability in the region. — ONA
