Oman to take part in friendly beach soccer meet in Belarus

MUSCAT: The head coach of Oman national beach soccer team, Talib Hilal, has shortlisted 12 probables for a training camp ahead of the friendly beach soccer matches, which will be held in Belarus from August 4 to 14. The camp will take place at the sands court in the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex from Friday until August 1. Most of the probables are players who represented the team in the last Arab Beach Soccer Championship and ANOC Asian qualifiers. Oman will aim for maximum technical output from this friendly tournament to gear up for the Fifa Beach Soccer World Cup UAE 2023 which will be held in Dubai from February 15 to 25, 2024.


Oman beach soccer team was runners-up at the Arab Beach Soccer Championship 2023 on a successful note. The team lost to Egypt 4-2 in the final game of the championship. Oman team’s campaign in the Arabian event began with a strong start when they thrashed Palestine 7-1. They received a shock 5-3 loss against Egypt before registering an astounding 14-0 victory over Kyrgyzstan in the last group match to secure a spot in the quarterfinals. They were second behind toppers Egypt. In the quarterfinals, Oman beat UAE 5-4 to book a berth in the semifinals. Oman defeated Morocco 4-2 in the semifinals to confirm their attendance in the final match.


Later in May, Oman beach soccer team missed their attendance in ANOC World Beach Games after they lost to UAE 3-2 in a tight clash in the Asian qualifiers.
