97,000 German tourists visited Oman in 2023

Muscat: Around 97,000 of the total 2.9 million visitors who came to the Sultanante of Oman at the end of September 2023 were German nationals.


According to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), Germans formed the single largest European community to visit the country as tourists.


363,732 of 1,650,210 guests who stayed in the three to five-star hotels were European nationals.


Oman and the European Union (EU) have also finalised steps towards a comprehensive air transport agreement and an MoU between the Civil Aviation Authority and the German air navigation company.


In 2022, Schengen consulates in Oman received a total of 30,885 visa applications. Among these, 23,430 visas were approved,


German-Oman relations have traditionally been robust since the 1960s and several German companies have been involved in various infrastructure projects in the country.


Currently, the national airline, Oman Air, operates direct services to Frankfurt and Munich.


A bilateral investment promotion and protection agreement entered into force on April 4, 2010.


In 2014, Germany and Oman signed a declaration of intent on cooperation in culture, education, science, and research.


By the end of 2022, 44 German companies were registered in Oman, with a total invested capital exceeding RO16 million in various sectors including construction, mining, quarrying, industry, health, and oil and gas.


Since 2007, there has been a private Omani university, the German University of Technology (GUtech), in Oman whose curriculum follows that of the German partner RWTH Aachen University.


Recently, the Sultanate of Oman and the Federal Republic of Germany marked the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations.


A commemorative stamp was revealed during the ceremony to embody the advanced relations between the two countries.
