SUHAR: North Al Batinah Governorate targets to invest RO 14 million over the next three years in the so-called ‘humanising cities’ projects, urban expansion of the wilayats of the governorate as well as the development of the waterfronts, public parks and tourism infrastructure, among others.

This was stated by Mohammed bin Sulaiman al Kindi, Governor of Al Batinah North Governorate. He added that the governorate is presently monitoring existing investment opportunities and providing opportunities for future investment in the industrial, logistics, real estate development, and tourism and entertainment sectors.

The governorate is working, through its ambitious development strategy that is consistent with the Oman Vision 2040, to place the governorate as a destination for economic prosperity and sustainable development through effective partnership with the relevant parties both within and outside the governorate. The strategy aims to achieve the highest rates of economic growth and balanced and sustainable development in line with the approach of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik who accords a great attention to developing the governorates and consolidating the principle of decentralisation.

The governor of North Al Batinah added that the governorate’s urbanisation strategy indicated that it will be one of the main centres for international trade. The governorate is also expected to play a major role in creating and providing value-added economic activities taking advantage of the plentiful natural resources with the logistics economy being the basis of the development process in the governorate.

The city of Suhar will play a pivotal role in enhancing trade exchange with neighbouring countries and expanding access to global markets. The city is expected to grow so that the population centres will be integrated into the current urban areas of both Suhar and Liwa creating Greater Suhar. On the other hand, an additional economic tributary will be available through the expected growth in the Wilayat of Al Suwaiq in terms of food and agricultural industry, the governor said.

The wilayats of North Al Batinah Governorate are witnessing the implementation of several development and service projects.

The city centre redevelopment and rehabilitation project and the coastal tourism development project is currently under implementation in the Wilayat of Shinas.

The Al Tayeb City project is being implemented in the Wilayat of Liwa. It involves the design and construction of a longitudinal park extending 5 kilometres along the northern edge of the city.

In the Wilayat of Suhar, an environmental development project will be implemented in Ain Sahban. Other projects include development of Wadi Haibi Market, construction of school bus station, establishment of the office of wali of Suhar, developing the Castle Square, a consultancy study for developing the waterfront in the coastal area between Majz Al Kubra and Al Owainat, the governor said.

In the Wilayat of Saham, Saham Public Park will be renovated by adding more recreational activities to cater to the needs of all society segments and attract new investments, the governor said.

In the Wilayat of Al Khabourah, development and beautification works are underway at the wilayat’s entrance as well as the construction of a sustainable path stretching from the Al Khabourah roundabout to Al Khabourah Club with a length of 3.8 km, a project to develop the area between Qasabiyat Al Zaab and Qasabiyat Al Hawasna. The Wilayat of Al Suwaiq is seeing the development of the old souq and the development of the wilayat’s centre including renovation of Al Suwaiq Fort and the surrounding area, the governor concluded. — ONA
