Oman Across Ages Museum organised a scientific symposium “Oman Across Ages Museum: a sustainable cultural heritage” under the auspices of Nasser bin Hamoud al Kindi, Secretary-General of the Royal Court Affairs, last week in Manah.

The symposium aimed to highlight the role of the museum in presenting the authenticity of the unique cultural heritage for thousands of years, raising awareness about heritage, fostering pride, and elucidating the museum’s role in the process of sustainable cultural development.

The symposium contained several scientific papers.

These included a working paper on ‘The alphabet of Omani inscriptions: birth and spread’ by Dr Asmahan Said al Jaru, a specialist in historical studies at the Oman Across Ages Museum.

Dr Abdullah bin Khamis al Kindi, head of the Media Department, College of Arts and Social Sciences at Sultan Qaboos University, shared a working paper on ‘the history of Oman media at the Oman Across Ages Museum’ and his personal experience.

Dr Abdullah bin Saif al Ghafri, Unesco Chair for Aflaj Studies at the University of Nizwa, discussed a working paper on ‘guidelines for selecting the contents of the Aflaj corner in the museum.’

Dr Ali bin Hamad al Lawati, assistant professor, Unesco Chair for Aflaj Studies at the University of Nizwa, also examined a working paper about "the knowledge content presented in embracing Islam: a reading of the sources and reasons for cultural connotations.

A working paper on ‘the social content in Oman Across Ages Museum’ was presented by Dr Nasser bin Saif al Saadi, assistant professor of history and culture at the Unesco Chair for Aflaj Studies at the University of Nizwa.

Dr Najia bint Mohammed al Siyabiyah, a senior research and studies administrator, at Oman Across Ages Museum, and Roqaya bint Khamis al Shukriyah, head of the Information Department at Oman Across Ages Museum, presented a paper on ‘research writing for the Museum in the Renaissance Era.’

Farihah bint Almur al Majaaliyah, an administrator specialising in multimedia production and design, discussed a working paper on ‘visual and interactive presentations at Oman Across Ages Museum.’

These presentations contributed to the symposium’s aim of exploring the rich cultural heritage and the role of the museum in sustainable cultural development. It also comes from the vision of the museum to shed light on the unique character of Oman and introduce its characteristics, ancient history, and the process of its blessed Renaissance.
