Muscat: Muscat Municipality will soon undergo a major revamp of the Al Riyam Public Park entertainment area, considering its strategic seaside location for tourists and as a popular entertainment destination for domestic visitors.

The Municipality on Tuesday issued a clarification regarding the closure of the entertainment zone at Al Riyam Public Park as several family visitors have been seeking reasons for the closure of this landmark weekend family outdoor destination.

In an online statement, the municipality said the investment contract signed with the investor for the dedicated area, including recreational games, cafes, and shops, came to an end with the municipality, and the investor has cleared away all facilities.

The site will be handed back to the municipality in the coming days.

The municipality said will reinvest in the site according to a plan taking into account optimal development of the area by covering various aspects of entertainment, tourism, economic, and social, which will not only serve visitors but achieve the financial feasibility.

The municipality said it has been constantly carrying out maintenance work on the largest part of the park, which is open to the public.

The green Al Riyam Park lies at the eastern end of the Muttrah Seaside and offers views of the port. Al Riyam Park comes along the path of a popular trail that once linked the Muttrah area with Muscat’s old walled city.
