Muscat: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources (MAFWR) in South Sharqiyah is continuing with its efforts to control desert locusts as part of a national campaign.

According to Jasim Al Humaidi, the latest weekly report on combating the pest shows that an area of 2,000 hectares was covered under the campaign.

“We have also targeted 181 breeding zones to control locust outbreaks,” he noted.

According to a recent survey conducted by a specialized team, the environmental conditions of the governorate are very conducive for its breeding, especially after heavy rainfalls have helped in vegetation growth, making the governorate a suitable breeding ground.
