More rains expected across governorates: Met

Muscat: The Oman Met Office has issued thunder shower alert from 12 pm to 9 pm on Tuesday in various governorates of Oman.


Rain is expected across the mountainous areas of Al Dhakhiliya, Al Dhahira, Al Buraimi, North al Sharqiyah, South al Sharqiyah, South al Batinah and North al Batinah. The Met Office also noted that it might extend to the desert of Al Dakhiliyah Al Dhahira.


The rainfall is expected to range between 10 to 30 mm and downdraft is expected to be between 20 to 40 knots.


By midday, forming of clouds over various parts of the Hajar Mountains were observed, and the weather experts noted, “There were chances of their expansion and extension, with scattered rain, sometimes thundery, accompanied by active winds and hailstones falling over the coming time.”


Clouds had been forming over parts of the Dhofar Mountains with chances of scattered rain later in the day.


Oman Met Office has also issued an alert to pay attention and take caution during the rain and hail storms.


Areas likely to be affected by active downward winds ranging between 40-75 km/h during thunderstorms are concentrated on the mountainous areas of Al Dakhiliyah, North Al Sharqiyah, Al Dhahirah and Al Buraimi governorates, extending to the deserts of Al Dakhiliyah and Al Dhahirah.


The Met Office has cautioned on poor horizontal visibility due to dust rising and not to cross wadis as flash floods are expected.
