MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Environment Authority, joined world countries to observe the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer which is celebrated on September 16 each year.
This year’s celebrations are held under the theme: fixing the ozone layer and reducing climate change.
The Sultanate of Oman joined the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer, the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer and its amendments in London, Copenhagen, Montreal and Beijing. The Sultanate of Oman was classified among the countries with the least consumption of substances that depleted the ozone layer.
The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Environment Authority, is currently implementing the third phase of the HCFC phase-out strategic project in cooperation with the United Nations Environment Programme and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization. The project aims to carry out a number of training and awareness activities and targets to review and develop national procedures and regulations in accordance with the requirements of the Montreal Protocol during the upcoming period. — ONA
