MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman joined the rest of the world to mark World Veterinary Day which is celebrated on the last Saturday of April every year in recognition of the veterinarians’ roles and efforts to achieve food security and protect public health.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources is keen on celebrating the veterinarian every year in appreciation of the efforts and achievements they make in preserving and developing livestock in the Sultanate of Oman vaccinating animals against diseases.
The Sultanate of Oman has more than 750 veterinarians working for public and private institutions.
Engineer Khalfan bin Matar al Sharji, Director-General of Livestock Resources at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, confirmed that the ministry will continue to pay attention to veterinarians with the aim of developing livestock and their products, adding and that the veterinarians will continue their important role in protecting livestock against imported and endemic diseases by vaccinating animals against infectious and epidemic diseases that cause high mortality and large economic losses at the individual and institutional levels as well as the national economy in general. — ONA
