More Arabian Tahr sighted in Wilayat of Dima W’attayeen

Dima W'attayeen: The Directorate of Environment in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate has recently sighted an increase in the number of wild animals in the Wilayat of Dima W’attayeen most notably the Arabian Tahr and several species of local and migratory birds.


The Eastern Hajar Mountain range is a major natural habitats for wildlife in the Sultanate of Oman and is characterized by an abundance of trees and plants which provide food for animals.

The Department of Eastern Hajar seeks endeavours to boost foot patrols and constant follow-up in remote areas, valleys and plateaus to monitor wildlife and prevent illegal hunting and the cutting down of trees. The department carries out a number of programmes and campaigns to spread the culture of environment preservation among the public.


The department’s wildlife rangers are permanently on stand-by to receive reports on violations to the laws that protect the environment and wildlife.
