MUSCAT: Oman cricket all-rounder Sufyan Mehmood is recounting the rich exposure at the recently concluded Masters T10 League in the United States.

Sufyan, who played two Twenty20 World Cups (India 2-16, Oman 2021) for Oman, joined the likes of former star players Shahid Afridi, Suresh Raina, Gautam Gambhir, Aron Finch, Chris Gayle, Jacques Kallis among others in the USA tournament. The Oman player was included in the squad of tournament runners-up New York Warriors.

Speaking to Oman Observer, Sufyan said: “Though I did not get opportunity to play any games, it was a tremendous experience for me to share the dressing room with some of the top former players.”

Texas Chargers beat New York Warriors in the Super Over after the final was tied at 92 runs each after the stipulated 10 overs in Lauderhill on August 27.

Sharing his experience, former Pakistan player Afridi said he followed some Oman matches and congratulated the side for reaching the final qualifiers for the 50-over World Cup India 2023, in Zimbabwe.

“Oman are doing well in cricket. I feel there are no shortcuts in life for success. We have to come out of our comfort zone to achieve our goals,” Afridi said in a message to Oman players.

The medium pacer had good sessions with former West Indies sensation Chris Gayle and former Pakistani speedster Abdur Razzaq. Razzaq was impressed with Sufyan’s power-hitting skills and gave him some tips as well.

Sufyan said he received some valuable power-hitting tips from Afridi, known for his quick-fire batting.

The Oman player said he got to learn a lot of things in terms of fitness, match awareness and skills. He had a real-time experience of watching those top players handling different pressure situations as well.

“I hope to practice and implement those valuable lessons in my game to the benefit of the Oman team in the immediate future,” he concluded.
