Oman junior team to begin warm-up camp in Muscat

MUSCAT, Aug 18


Oman Under-16 football team will begin their short domestic camp on Saturday in Muscat under the watchful eyes of national head coach Anwar al Habsi.


The eight days preparatory gathering will see participation of 26 players including some few faces.


This warm-up gathering will be the third since the commencement of the short series camps in the last month. The first camp took place between July 24 to 30 in Bidiya and the target was to form a new squad for the junior national team.


Bidiya preparatory event featured participation of 50 players and they were filtered to 26 players in the following short camp which took place during August 5 to 14.


The national junior football team did not progress to the finals of the AFC U17 Asian Championship in Thailand as they went down in the qualifiers during last October. The coaching staff of the national team are busy now to form another team to show their best in the forthcoming events.


In the third local camp, the coaching staff will begin their focus to shape the players readiness ahead of the next assignment which will be taking part in the upcoming Arab School Football Championship in Egypt in November.


Oman team will attend this key event under an umbrella of Oman Schools Sports Association (OSSA) as this championship is dedicated for the schools. The following participation for the team will be in the West Asian Championship in December.


The U16 football team camp will include two friendly matches against Fanja (U19) and Seeb (U19) teams on Wednesday and Friday respectively.


During the previous camps, Oman team boys entered to the mood of the preparatory games as they played against Samayil club (U19) and ended for the latter by 3-1. Oman boys registered their first win over against Muscat club (U19) 2-0.


On the other hand, OSSA concluded few months ago Omantel League for Schools which featured attendance of all the education directorates across the Sultanate of Oman. The national team coaching staff were monitoring this event and some names in the national team squad were selected from this event.
