MUSCAT: Oman volleyball team concluded their first domestic training camp on Saturday at Sohar Sports Complex with attendance of 17 players. The training sessions were performed under watchful eyes of national coach Jamal al Mamari besides assistant coach Khalid al Shizawi.
The four days preparatory camp was part of the team’s forthcoming assignment including their attendance in the Arabian Sports Games which will be held in Algeria in July and Arabian Volleyball Championship in Iraq in September besides the Asian Games in China which will begin on September 23. The recently concluded internal camp will be followed by a series of domestic warm-up gathering in May and June until the kick off of the first official participation.
The experienced national coach, Jamal al Mamari, said that he is very pleased to lead the coaching staff of the national volleyball team. “Thanks to Oman Volleyball Association (OVA) and for their confidence and trust in me to lead the technical side of the national team. We will work together with the OVA board of directors to accomplish the desired targets. There are many assignments which are awaiting the team in the coming few months and we will work hard to shape the readiness of the players ahead of the championships,” he added.
On the camp, coach Jamal said:” The camp was an opportunity to see a replacement for some faces in the squad. This will not happen in a short term but it will take time until the newly selected players will be adapted with the level of international and regional matches and official events. The latest gathering featured presence of a mixture of young players including three players who are under 20 years besides seven players who are in their 20s and five players who are above 30 years old. This is a normal squad in volleyball which normally have players with longer age than other sports,” he concluded.
The announced squad of Oman national volleyball team comprised 17 players. The majority of the selected players were from Seeb and Sohar clubs besides some members from Oman Club.
Oman Squad: Yousef al Shukaili, Younis al Amri, Abdullah al Muqbali, Ahmed al Toubi, Adam al Jalbobi, Khamis al Jabri, Mohammed al Muqbali, Mahmood al Saadi, Saleh al Jalbobi, Hilal al Muqbali, Majid al Shibli, Ismail al Hedi, Khalid al Muqbali, Abdullah al Shibli, Osama al Mamari, Saud al Mamari and Falah al Jaradi.
