Oman Olympic coach calls up 26 players for domestic camp

MUSCAT, May 9


The Oman Olympic (under-23) team coaching manager Akram Habreesh has called up 26 players for a domestic preparatory camp which will begin on Wednesday and will run for one week. The training camp in Muscat is part of the team’s preparation for their main forthcoming assignment of West Asian Championship in Iraq in mid of June.


The last presence of Oman Olympic team was back in Qatar at the International U23 Friendly Championship in March. Oman boys have ended the championship in sixth place after suffering a 1-0 defeat against Iraq in the concluding match. In the opening game, Oman team lost 3-0 against eventual champions South Korea while they edged Kyrgyzstan 2-0 in the second round match. South Korea were crowned as champions of the tournament after blanking UAE 3-0 in the final game while UAE finished as runners-up. Kuwait claimed third place as they beat Thailand 1-0.


The training sessions of Muscat’s warm-up gathering under the watchful eyes of the national coach Habreesh will shape the player’s readiness for the West Asian event. The other upcoming major events that Oman Olympic team boys will take part will be attending in the U23 Asian Cup qualifiers in September.


The U23 Asian Cup finals, which will be held in Doha, will act as qualifiers for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Moreover, the national Olympic team players will take part in the Asian Games in China from September 23 to October 8.


The underway camp and the next gatherings will assist the squad’s harmony ahead of the official tournaments start. Moreover, the team will play series of friendly games before the West Asian championship and the preparatory games will take place in the next gathering.
