First day of Eid Al Adha announced in Oman

Muscat: The Main Committee on sighting the crescent moon of Dhul Hijjah 1444 AH has announced that the moonsighting was confirmed on Sunday. Thus, the first day of Eid Al Adha (10 Dhul Hijjah 1444 AH) will fall on Wednesday, June 28, 2023.


A statement to this effect was issued by the moonsighting committee at the end of its meeting held at the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs today.


The main committee tasked with deciding on crescents of the Hijri months, was headed today by Dr Mohammed bin Said al Maamari, Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs, in the presence of its members, who were:


His Eminence Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad al Khalili, Grand Mufti of the Sultanate of Oman, Eng Khalid bin Hilal al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr Wael bin Saif al Harrasi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs, Shaikh Mohammed bin Salim al Akhzmi, a judge at the Supreme Court, Shaikh Abdul-Rahman bin Abdul-Sattar al Kamali, a judge at the Supreme Court, and Shaikh Mohammed bin Salim al Nahdi, a judge at the Supreme Court.

According to the statement, tomorrow (Monday), June 19 2023, will be the first day of the month of Dhul Hijjah 1444 AH and the first day of Eid Al Adha (the 10th of Dhul Hijjah 1444 AH) will fall on Wednesday, June 28, 2023.


On this auspicious occasion, the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs had the honour to express the most heartfelt greetings to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, praying to Allah the Almighty to endow him with many happy returns of the occasion and wishing him good health and blessings.


The committee also wished Omani people and all Muslims welfare, blessings and bounties.
