

CAIRO: The League of Arab States on Saturday called for strengthening efforts to confront the phenomenon of drought, desertification, and the lack of water resources in the Arab countries, which resulted in the deterioration and shortage of agricultural lands.
This came in a statement issued by the Arab League (AL) on the occasion of the 29th anniversary of the International Day to Combat Desertification and Drought, which is celebrated this year under the slogan “Women — their land — their rights”.
The statement stated that the issue of drought is one of the most important issues being pursued by the Arab League through the Department of Environment and Meteorology (the technical secretariat of the Arab Ministers Responsible for Environmental Affairs, and through the Arab team concerned with following up international environmental conventions on biological diversity and combating desertification.
In this regard, he indicated that the team meets periodically every year for the purpose of coordinating Arab positions and coordinating the work of the Arab teams participating in the conferences of the United Nations Conventions on Biological Diversity and to Combat Desertification. — ONA
