OCC Achieves Remarkable Results in International Tournaments

Muscat: The Oman Chess Committee ( OCC) has concluded the international tournament participation with outstanding performances. The Oman Chess Committee fielded in the Zone 3.1 World Cup Qualification Tournament in Iran capital,Tehran, and two international Sharjah Masters tournaments held in Sharjah, UAE.


In the Zone 3.1 World Cup Qualification Tournament, the Oman national teams showcased their skills, with Mahad al Omari and Adnan al Jahwari representing the men's category for the first time. In the women's category, Maria al Balushi and Kawthar al Maamari made their debut in international appearances.


The participations in these prestigious tournaments reflects their selection as key representatives of Oman in future events, as well as aimed to prepare, qualify, train, and gain invaluable experience.


The Oman national team continued their journey at the Sharjah Masters tournaments in Sharjah, competing with four players, namely Mohammad al Saeedi, Mohammad al Amri, Abdulsalam al Mashaikhi, and Said al Maamari. Notably, Mohammad al Saeedi achieved an impressive fourth-place finish in the Future Championship group for category C, classified under 2000 rating points, with a stellar performance when he garnered 6.5 points, with five victories and 3 draws in 9 rounds, competing against 62 players from 19 countries. Additionally, Mohammed al Omari was able to achieve 5.5 points. While Abdul Salam al Mashaikhi, and Saeed al Maamari showcased their skills by earning 5 points for each.


The Oman Chess Committee's participation extended to the Dubai International Championship, represented by Musallam al Amri, the reigning Oman individual champion. Facing tough competition from 86 players representing 24 countries, under a rating of 2200, Al Amri displayed determination and achieved 3.5 points throughout the 9-round.


These international participations align with the committee's plans to qualify talented players. Moreover, preparations are already underway for upcoming tournaments, the Abu Dhabi International Championships, Asian Amateur Championships, West Asian Junior Championships, Asian Junior Championships, and Qatar International Masters Championship.


The Oman Chess Committee has assembled a strong lineup of players for these forthcoming events. Anas al Daroushi will represent Oman in the U-16 category, while Abdulrahman al Zadjali and Hamoud al Busaidy, will compete in the U-14 category. While along with Mohammed al Mahrouqi in the U-10 category, the talented Qusay al Wardi will make his first official participation in the U-8 category, coaching by Bashir al Qadimi, while Mohammad al Hashmi, the head of the national team delegation.


The national team has also participated in several internal preparatory namely, club championship for different age groups held in May,Clubs Chess Championship and the World Schools Championship in Turkey last April among 32 countries.


In their pursuit of developing young Omani in technical fields, Oman Chess Committee the participation of referees Khalid al Hadidi and Hamdan al Hinai in managing the Arab Championship in Jordan.
