The 6th CCED Oman Student Awards for the Advancement of Postgraduate Education, which has seen previous winners go onto secure senior positions in many of Oman’s leading industrial companies and policy roles in the public sector, were launched on Wednesday, May 31, by CC Energy Development, one of the country’s biggest independent oil producers, to receive 2023 submissions.

The Oman Student Awards were established in 2016 to celebrate the role that Post-Graduate Education plays in creating an innovation ecosystem that can invent the future in part through research, in part through education, and in part through active efforts to move university-derived ideas into industry. The most important product of Post-Graduate Studies is educated students, capable researchers and innovative thinkers, who will have the opportunity to win a paid internship at CCED as part of the accolade.

“These students include not just the founders of new industries and technologies but also the future leaders of companies, academia, and government organizations. A post-graduate community of Masters and PhD students in Oman supports and contributes to a country’s transition into a diversified and knowledge-based economy,” said Walter Simpson, Managing Director, CCED. “Investing in the future of local and national talent is part of CCED’s core strategy in adding business value and achieving growth along with the communities we work with,” added Simpson.

A new era of sustainability calls for innovative ideas, which means a “massive” investment in upskilling and reskilling Omanis and foreign workers, delegates said. But this relies on dramatically elevating two-way communication between educators, industry stakeholders, government bodies, and society – an oft-discussed call to action that now needs to truly be realized. Time is short to create and inspire creative, pragmatic, and digitally-enabled talent to underpin the sultanate’s journey to Net Zero by 2050 – its greatest national challenge yet.
