MUSCAT: The Ministry of Education (MoE) has said that the new education plan has been prepared to keep pace with the requirements of sustainable development and future skills, in addition to restructuring the educational system, with a focus on implementing vocational and technical education from the academic year 2023/2024.
Vocational and technical education will be implemented gradually in a number of public schools in cooperation with private education and training institutions to meet the requirements of the labour market.
The new education plan will be implemented for grades (1-4), (5-8), and (9-12).
For grades (1-4), the plan focuses on reducing the number of subjects, dividing the study materials into basic and accompanying subjects, and focusing on basic skills such as reading, writing, and future skills.
For grades (5-8), the focus will be on reducing the number of subjects and dividing the study materials into basic and accompanying subjects. Students will not undergo exams in the accompanying subjects, but other evaluation methods will be applied.
For grades (9-10), reducing the number of subjects, beginning with the stage of selecting options from the ninth grade and teaching foreign languages.
For grades, (11-12), the focus will be to address the requirements of the labour markets.
The new plans have been prepared following feedback from educational experts and the business sector considering the requirements of the job market.
Two majors in business administration and information technology will be applied to start from the next academic year 2023/2024 in some schools in the governorates of Muscat and North Al Batinah.
Subjects on some energy and mineral specialisations will start from the academic year 2024/2025 in two schools in the Governorate of Muscat and North Al Batinah, in cooperation with the Oman Society for Petroleum Services (OPAL).
