MUSCAT: Omani rally champion Abdullah al Rawahi on Skoda Fabia with Jordanian Navigator Atta al Hamoud will take part in the first round of Jordan National Rally on April 28. Another Omani rally driver Zakaria al Amri and his co-driver Mohammed al Mazroui on Subaru Impreza N14 will also attend the event.

The rally, which consists of five stages at the Dead Sea, the Baptism Site and Ma’in area, will be attended by 24 drivers from Jordan, Lebanon, Kuwait and Oman.

All the participants will be looking at this rally as the main run-up for the Middle East Rally Championship (Merc) second round which will be organised in Jordan next month.

Abdullah al Rawahi, who won the first round of the Merc in Oman last January had withdrawn from the Merc second round in Qatar International Rally. Al Rawahi will try to overcome last rally disappointment with a podium finish and gain points in this championship, led by Qatari world champion Nasser al Attiyah.

Zakaria al Amri will try to recover from the last set back in Qatar International Rally as he was forced to leave the rally from the beginning in the super special stage due to some technical issues in the car.

Al Rawahi said: “I am taking part in the Jordan National Rally to prepare myself for the Jordan International Rally, which will be held in similar terrain and stages. We will be focusing on our strategy during the race and hope that it will end successfully this time without any technical problems for a podium finish for us.”

Meanwhile, Zakaria al Amri on Subaru Impreza is also joining this rally as pre-test for Jordan International Rally, for a better look at the stages and to work out some calculations with Navigator Al Mazroui. Both drivers have good experience in Jordan’s National and International rally championships and are looking forward to podium finish this time.
