Muscat: Muscat Municipality has announced that collection boxes for clothing items will be removed from the streets of the city.

In a statement, Muscat Municipality, said, “The municipality wishes to advise the public that issuing approvals for the placement of clothing collection boxes in public places in Muscat Governorate has been suspended.”

It added that the suspension was due to such boxes piling up at street entrances and in residential neighbourhoods, which led to traffic problems, as well as leading to spoiling the aesthetics of public places.

The municipality urged all committees, associations and institutions that have previously been authorised to place donation containers in public places to remove them within one year from the date of its announcement.

The municipality will take the necessary measures in this regard in case of non-compliance with the above regulation, it added.
