Muscat: Nasser bin Khamis al Jashmi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance, said the new Social Protection Law, will increase the period of maternity leave to 98 days, and the system will bear the payment of wages during the leave, not the employer.

"This will address the issue of gender bias which is being reported while hiring women."

The Minister of Labour speaking at the 'Together We Progress' on Sunday said that a study is underway to raise the minimum wage RO360- 400, which will take into the factors such as economic viability, supply and demand of the manpower, and their skills.

The Minister of Labor added that the public sector employees of the 2011 and 2012 baches received their late promotions, and the Ministry is currently working in coordination with the Ministry of Finance to study upgrading the late payments from 2013 to 2018.
