Oman hosts 3rd meeting of Chicago Convention’s Task Force

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) hosted on Monday the third meeting of the Article 12 Task Force of the Convention on International Civil Aviation (Chicago, 1944).


As many as 30 experts from 12 States and 3 International Organizations take part in the meeting.


The experts discuss means and mechanisms to support and enhance implementation by States of Article 12 of the Chicago Convention.


Under Article 12 of the Convention, the State of Registry of an aircraft has the responsibility for ensuring that the aircraft complies with the rules and regulations relating to the flight and maneuver of aircraft in force wherever such aircraft may be as well for the prosecution of all persons violating these rules and regulations.


The Article 12 Task Force was established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in April 2021 following the inclusion of the study of this issue on the Work Programme of the ICAO


Legal Committee. The Task Force is expected to develop ICAO rules, guidance or recommendations aimed at assisting states to enhance the implementation of their obligations under Article 12.
