

Muscat: Oman hosted the 9th meeting of the Hydrographic Committee of Countries of the Marine Environment Protection Zone (ROPME).
The three-day meeting is organized by the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO), represented by the National Hydrographic Office of Oman.
The meeting was held under the auspices of Eng Khamis Mohammed al Shammakhi, Transport Undersecretary.
The meeting is held in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology. It seeks to ensure that member states keep pace with developments in the field of hydrography and produce navigation maps accordingly.
The meeting is attended by member states of the Hydrographic Committee, which include Oman, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran and Pakistan, in addition to the attendance of two countries—the UK and France—and international companies specialized in the field of hydrography and representatives of sectors of relevance.
ROPME Hydrographic Committee is a regional panel headquartered in the Principality of Monaco, France. Oman is a prominent member of the committee and it is represented by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology and Oman National Hydrographic Office of the Royal Navy of Oman.
