The largest snow park in the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region was officially opened at the Mall of Oman in the presence of Qais bin Mohammed al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP), and members of the Majid al Futtaim Group and other invitees on Monday.
Spread over 14,830 square metres, the Snow Oman is the only indoor snow destination in the Sultanate. The must-visit destination features a 430-m ice rink as well as a penguinarium, besides more than 20 family-friendly rides and other attractions, which is also home to a colony of king and gentoo penguins. Storytelling is integrated into the experience, which has a 'Desert Blizzard' theme and resembles an imaginary world where Oman's cityscapes and sand dunes are covered in real snow whilst still reflecting the local culture and heritage.
"We are proud to welcome the newest addition to our ever-expanding portfolio, Snow Oman. Entertainment plays an important role in the growth of the local economies, and the opening of Snow Oman marks another major milestone in our investment strategy in the Sultanate, as well as demonstrating our ongoing commitment to deliver innovative experiences for guests across the region," said Ignace Lahoud, Chief Executive Officer, Majid al Futtaim Entertainment.
"Entertainment not only impacts the local economy, but provides us with a much-needed sense of community, and Snow Oman delivers a unique and immersive way for families to spend quality time together," he added.
The rides vary from the Mountain Thriller, Snow Bullet, Slide Winder and Cloud Climber to Zorb Ball, besides unique attractions such as Cold Town Muscat, Frozen Shipwreck and Lighthouse, and a 475-square metre ice rink. It is the only snow ambience in the Sultanate of Oman, which caters to those who love to explore icy alleys and frozen pathways between snow-frosted buildings.
"We are the pioneers in offering indoor snow experience in the region. In 2005, we offered the first sub-zero leisure avenue in the Mall of the Emirates, which is Ski Dubai. Over time, the experience has been recognised as the World's Best Indoor Ski Resort by the prestigious World Ski Awards for seven consecutive years. In 2017, Ski Egypt opened in the Mall of Egypt and set an all-new record for being the first of its kind in the African continent," said Mark Haak Wegmann, Managing Director, Leisure and Entertainment, Majid al Futtaim.
"The response from the Omani population to Snow Oman has truly been overwhelming, and we are in the middle of adding more and more facilities to Snow Oman as the group is always in search of better entertainment avenues for the end users," he added.
The occasion was celebrated with entertainment programmes like ice-skating performances. Mohammed El Etri, Vice-President, Global Snow, Majid Al Futtaim Entertainment, attended the event.
