The number of passenger arrivals through Muscat International Airport increased by 142 per cent as of November 2022 compared to the same year.

The number of passengers departing from the airports during the same period increased by 111 per cent during the same period compared to the year before.

According to IATA, airlines from the Middle East saw an 84.6 per cent traffic rise in November compared to November 2021.

The number of incoming and outgoing international flights through the airports of Muscat, Salalah, and Suhar was 57 939, until the end of November 2022, while the total number of passengers (arrivals, departures, and transit) at Muscat, Salalah, Suhar and Duqm airports were 8,764,286 during the same period.

According to IATA, total traffic rose 41.3 per cent compared to November 2021. Globally, traffic is now at 75.3 per cent of November 2019 levels.

“Traffic results in November reinforce that consumers are thoroughly enjoying the freedom to travel. Unfortunately, the reactions to China’s reopening of international travel in January remind us that many governments are still playing science politics when it comes to Covid-19 and travel. The Governments should focus on using available tools to manage Covid-19 effectively — including improved therapeutics and vaccinations — rather than repeating policies that have failed time and again over the last three years,” said Willie Walsh, IATA’s Director General.
