Muscat sees Airport 104.8% growth in flight movement

Muscat - The number of international flights arriving and departing from the airports of Muscat, Salalah, and Sohar at the end of last June increased by 131.2 percent to 26,382 compared to the same period in 2021.


The number of arrivals through airports recorded an increase of 161 percent, as the total number of arriving, departing, and transiting passengers at Muscat, Salalah, Sohar, and Duqm airports reached 3,888,323 by the end of June 2022, and the number of departures through airports until the end of June increased 114 percent compared to the same period last year.


The number of incoming and outgoing flights (international and domestic) through Muscat International Airport increased by 104.8 percent to 27,880 flights by the end of June 2022. The Muscat airport was used by 3,382,855 passengers compared to 1,416,975 passengers from 13,612 flights in 2021.


Salalah Airport recorded an increase in the number of flights (international and domestic) by 78.8 percent to 3,483 by the end of June 2022.


The number of international flights through Salalah Airport increased by 184.8 while domestic flights recorded an increase of 36 percent to reach 1,888, compared to 1,388 flights during the same period in 2021.


The number of domestic (incoming and outgoing) passengers traveling through Salalah Airport increased 57.3 percent until the end of June 2022 compared to the same period in 2021.


The number of international flights (departing and arriving) from Sohar Airport is 356 until the end of June 2022, with 32,071 passengers on international flights (incoming and outgoing) using the airport.


As for Duqm Airport, it recorded a 6.4 percent increase in the number of domestic flights (departing and arriving) to 334 until the end of June 2022, compared to 314 flights during the same period in 2021, and the number of passengers increased by 42.4 percent from 22,555 passengers until the end of June 2021. The number of passengers who used the airport is 32,114 until the end of June 2022.


With regard to the nationalities using the Muscat International Airport, the Indian nationality topped the highest number of passengers on departing and arriving flights through the airport with 139,441 passengers at the end of June 2022, followed by the Bangladeshi nationality (46,734) and the Pakistani nationality (35,336 passengers) until end of June 2022.
