As the capital prepares for three weeks of mostly outdoor Muscat Nights, the visitors will be subject to somewhat chilly temperatures in the initial days.

According to Oman Meteorology, temperatures in most parts of the city are expected to come down, especially in the initial days, between 14 degrees Celsius and 19 Celsius in most parts of the country, especially Muscat which will host the event.

As for the forecast for Thursday, night temperatures in Muscat will be 17 degrees Celsius, Suhar 17°C, Sur 17°C, Khasab 16°C, Salalah 19°C, Duqm 17°C and Nizwa 12°C

The winter season is expected to be very cold due to polar vortices, and increased rates of weather depressions, and countries near the equator are most affected by the temperature drop, according to weather experts.

Speaking to the Observer, an official at Oman Meteorology said, visitors to venues such as Naseem Park, Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC) and the Oman Automobile Association (OAA) grounds will be subject to cold and breezy weather than at Qurum Natural Park.

The official also indicated that apart from a high sea wave on the coasts of the Sea of Oman, low temperatures will prevail in most of the Sultanate’s governorates.

He added that while temperatures will come down in the later days of Muscat Nights, one cannot rule out the chances of rain during the coming day.

According to health experts, visitors should take care with appropriate winter clothes to avoid cold-related illness such as throat infections and flu, which has already been severe this year.
