MUSCAT: HH Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, will preside over the inaugural ceremony of the first edition of ‘Oman Conference on Environmental Sustainability’ tomorrow January 16. The four-day conference will focus on air pollution, climate change and other issues.

The event will include the launch of the ‘Green Branch Award’ designed for contributors and supporters of environmental action. The prize, up for grabs by institutions and individuals, is aimed at encouraging outstanding contributions to environment sanitation and sustainability.

An environmental exhibition will be held on the sidelines of the conference.

It will showcase the latest technologies, solutions and techniques in addressing common ecological challenges. It will also include specialised workshops focusing on green hydrogen energy and methane management.

The conference promotes the values of research, development and innovation through the establishment of a ‘Youth Ecothon’ within an initiative codenamed ‘Manafei’ (benefits), which paves the way for Omani students to participate in improvising solutions for environmental start-ups that generate developmental revenue against less risk to air pollution or climate change.

The conference will be held as part of events marking Oman Environment Day. — ONA
