Muscat: Northern governorates of the Sultanate of Oman are predicted to receive rains of varying intensity from today, January 5, until Sunday, January 7, due to an air trough of low pressure, Oman's weather office said on Thursday.

According to Oman Meteorology Office (Oman Met), the governorate of Musandam is likely to receive rain starting today. Convective clouds associated with rain and occasionally thundershowers are expected to gradually affect other governorates, including North Batinah, Buraimi and Dahira.

“Rain of varying intensity ( 10-40) mm is expected over Saturday and Sunday that may cause wadis to overflow, while fresh downdraft winds with speed of 28-45km per hour will prevail in these governorates. Sea state will be moderate to rough with maximum wave height of (2-3) metres along the coasts of Musandam and North Batinah”, Oman Met added.

Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) calls on citizens and residents to exercise caution during weather condition, to avoid venturing into the sea and to keep following latest weather updates issued by the Authority.
