The Royal Camel Corps (RCC) in cooperation with Oman Camel Racing Federation will launch the first qualifying race for the annual festival camel racing on Wednesday, as part of the 20th edition for the season 2022-23 at the Suhar camel racing track.
The race includes 45 rounds, where 30 rounds will be held on Wednesday, including 19 for the ‘Hagayg’ category which is two years old for a distance of 3 km, and 11 rounds for the ‘Laqaya’ category which is three years old for 4 km.
Fifteen rounds will be run on Thursday, include six rounds for ‘Jadhaa’ category which is four years old for 5 km, while 3 rounds will be held for the ‘Thanaiya’ category which is five years old for 6 km, two rounds will be for ‘Hool’ category which is above six years for 6 km, in addition to two rounds for the human riders for 2 km.
Recently, the RCC announced about the positions that will qualify from some runs to the final race in March. The first three places from the first to the seventh rounds will qualify from the ‘Hagayg’ category. In the category of ‘Laqaya’, the first to fifth places qualify in the first round, while in the ‘Jadhaa’ category the top five winners from the first three rounds will qualify to the final.
From the ‘Thanaiya’ category, camels will qualify from first to tenth place in the first round, and in the ‘Hool’ category, the top 10 in the first two rounds, also the top 10 will qualify in the first round in human rider's race.
The participation is limited to purebred Omani camels wholly owned by Omani, while the use of stimulants are strictly prohibited.
