A platform hosting 100 sustainable projects and with dedicated specialised outlets for shopping and direct electronic sale of all types of products of interest to people with disabilities was launched on Wednesday.
The launch took place during 'Qadiroon' (capable) forum, held under the auspices of HH Sayyid Fahr bin Fatik al Said and attended by officials and representatives of the departments concerned.
The electronic platform for people with disabilities is part of the first sustainable project.
Introduced in 2007, 'Qadiroon', termed as an initiative for people of determination, has seen success in various Arab countries including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates, before being launched in the Sultanate of Oman in 2017.
The forum, organised by the Ministry of Labour in cooperation with Asas Muscat firm, discussed ways to establish sustainable projects that empower people with disabilities, notably in the field of entrepreneurship catering to their experience and abilities.
During the forum, a cooperation agreement was signed between Asas and Ishraqa Institute (a Khimji Ramdas wing for social development). The agreement provides for training and rehabilitation programmes to empower the disabled.
The forum touched on indices and statistics about people with disabilities in Oman, as well as efforts made by government and private establishments to help this segment of society address issues that might face them in the labour market.
Speaking to the media at the event, representatives from the Ministry of Social Development and Asas said the first edition was a great success and many disabled benefited from this project.
"We made the decision to continue the programme with more projects to support the disabled following the success of the first version," said a representative of the initiative.
According to her, the outcome of the first edition saw more than 100 options for education and certification of the qualified and support for over 100 people for treatment.
The second edition will support families of the disabled with 250 projects around the country, and has chosen to adopt a mindset aligned with the 2040 goals by establishing sustainable projects which give a helping hand to people with disabilities.
"We got support for the ideas from numerous bodies and ministries after presenting it to government entities."
