Leading organisations from across the air logistics industry in the Sultanate of Oman have pledged to strengthen efforts in support of the government’s goal place the country on the global trade map in line with the broader Oman Vision 2040 strategy.
This commitment was affirmed at an air cargo workshop organised last week by Oman SATS, the air cargo operator, in coordination with Oman Customs, Royal Oman Police and Oman Airports.
The Omani government attaches great importance to this sector, as it has for years made many possibilities and facilities to make the Sultanate of Oman a regional and international centre for transit shipments and re-exports to other destinations, due to the Sultanate of Oman’s strategic location between Asia, Europe and Africa.
In opening remarks, Shaikh Aiman bin Ahmed al Hosni, CEO of Oman Airports and Chairman of Oman SATS, praised the vital role of the air cargo sector, notably during the recent pandemic. The sector had made an important contribution in mitigating the effects of the pandemic and attracting international airlines to use Muscat International Airport as a destination for their operations.
Brigadier Saeed bin Khamis al Ghaithi, Director General of Customs, emphasised the commitment of Oman to create an investment climate in line with market requirements.
S T Tan, CEO — Oman SATS, set up in joint venture with Singaporean SATS International Company, one of the largest handling companies in the world, gave an overview of the future of air cargo operations in Oman.
Participating along with national carrier Oman Air, local budget carrier said it recently started operating the first air cargo plane.
Oman Logistics Association said it has actively enhanced coordination with the authorities to address the challenges of the private sector and develop its logistical skills.
Fisheries Development Oman (FDO), said it is working on large projects in the fish sector, which requires complementing the supply chain to reach the global markets by air as an added value for the sector.
A representative of Oman Vision 2040 for the National Investment and Export Development Programme — Nazdaher, presented the programme’s strategies to achieve the investment requirements of the Sultanate of Oman with innovative solutions to support investment decision-making.
The Oman Logistics Centre at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology also participated with a working paper of the ministry’s plans to prepare government laws, regulations in the logistics sector.
An e-commerce official at Asyad Express gave a glimpse into the future of e-commerce, the country’s current global position, and how Oman can benefit from the great global demand.
