The Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) has underscored the pivotal role of Duqm SEZ in crystallising Oman’s ambitions to develop a green-hydrogen based economic future.

Ahmed Hassan al Dheeb, Vice President – OPAZ, said a number of agreements have been signed with local and international investors for the establishment of green energy projects in the SEZ at Duqm. These projects will materialize in the coming years, he stated.

Speaking at the OER Business Summit 2022, held at Sheraton Oman Hotel on Wednesday, Al Dheeb said: “It is the clean energy that everyone is talking about in the world. The Sultanate of Oman is one of the countries that is participating strongly in this field and has begun to develop policies to support the growth of green hydrogen production. Oman enjoys a comparative advantage in the green energy space.” Deliberations during the daylong conference focused on the competitiveness of the Omani economy, the enabling factors for making the private sector a major driver of GDP growth, the impact of people and institutional performance on the economy, and talent development and growth.

His Highness Dr Adham Turki al Said, Assistant Professor for Economics, Sultan Qaboos University, who is also CEO and Co-Founder, The Firm for Business and Economic Consulting, was the keynote speaker at the Summit, which was organised by UMS Group.

A key panel discussion moderated by HH Dr Adham focused on enhancing the competitiveness of Oman’s economy, improving the ease of doing business and attracting domestic and foreign investment, negotiating a disruptive global business environment and changing brick and mortar businesses to a more technology/digital led model.

A workshop on understanding learning experience platforms (LXPs) and how they can unleash a learning culture in an organisation was held alongside the Summit. Leveraging social learning and the abundant learning content available in the world wide web, LXP’s are democratising the learning process and putting the learner in the driver’s seat when it comes to choosing relevant content for their own development . The workshop focused on the emerging technology of learning experience platforms and how organisations can leverage them for building skills and talent.

The OER Business Summit brought together business leaders, senior government officials and International experts to deliberate on the roadmap to a better future and fulfilling the Oman Vision 2040 plan.
