The fire that engulfed an aircraft, which led to an emergency evacuation of passengers on Wednesday, was brought under control in just 90 minutes, Oman Airports on Saturday.
"A morning salute to the Muscat International Airport’s Fire and Rescue team for their performance in responding, in only 90 seconds, and extinguishing an engine fire on an aircraft last week," the statement from the company.
Not just officials, even passengers on onboard praised the services provided by the airport authorities at the moment.
In the first of its kind incident at Muscat airport in recent times, 14 passengers suffered minor injuries as Air India Express's Kochi-bound flight from Muscat encountered an engine malfunction.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Air India Express flight IX 442 was scheduled to leave at 11.30 am local time. A fire broke out in one of the engines before taking off from Muscat International Airport, which required the evacuation of passengers.
CAA also extended thanks to all the aviation sector partners as they helped minimise the potential damage and risks.
