Muscat Airport sees a 79.1% jump in international passengers

Muscat - The incoming and outgoing international flights through the various airports of the Sultanate of Oman at the end of March 2022 recorded a growth of 81.9 percent to 10,672 by the end of March 2022, compared to 5,865 flights during the same period in 2021.


According to National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI), the number of incoming and outgoing domestic flights from Muscat, Salalah, Sohar, and Duqm airports increased by 25.3 percent to 2,914, compared to 2,326 flights during the same period in 2021.


The number of arriving and departing passengers through airports recorded a remarkable increase of 89 percent, as the total number of arriving, departing, and transiting passengers at Muscat, Salalah, Sohar, and Duqm airports reached 1,746,259 passengers until the end of March 2022, and the number of departing passengers through airports until the end of March increased by 60 percent compared to the period in 2021.


International air traffic through Muscat International Airport witnessed saw an increase in the number of flights by 74.4 percent in March 2022, and the total number of international flights passengers (arrival, departure, and transfer of flights) increased 79.1 percent, from 707,03 passengers to 1,266,551 passengers compared to the same period in of March 2021


Salalah Airport recorded an increase in the number of flights by 52 percent, bringing the number of incoming and outgoing international flights through the airport to 724 by the end of March, an increase of 138.2 percent, and the number of domestic flights through Salalah Airport increased 18.2 percent to 915 flights, compared to 774 flights during the same period in 2021.


The number of domestic (incoming and outgoing) passengers traveling through Salalah Airport increased 41 percent at the end of March 2022, compared to the same period in 2021.


The number of international flights (departing and arriving) from Suhar Airport reached 248 21,532 international passengers by the end of March 2022.


Duqm Airport recorded a 12.8 percent increase in the number of domestic flights (departing and arriving) to 176 at the end of March 2022, compared to 156 flights at the end of March 2021. The number of passengers increased 26.2 percent from 12,584 passengers at the end of March 2021 to 15,877 passengers by the end of March 2022.


Among the nationalities using Muscat International Airport, the Indian nationality topped the highest number of passengers on departing and arriving flights through the airport, with 106,872 passengers, followed by the Bangladesh nationals with 44,869 passengers and the Pakistan nationals with 35, 682 passengers.
