Queen’s Visit to Oman in 1979

Muscat: Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, visited the Sultanate of Oman on a State visit in 1979 as part of the GCC tour, which also included Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, and the UAE as well as Oman.


While the tour began with the Queen arriving in Kuwait on Concorde, but her arrival in Oman on February 28 for a three-day visit on the HMY Britannia, the Royal Yacht.


As the yacht arrived in Muscat, she was accompanied into Muscat Bay by a marine escort from the Sultan of Oman's Navy.
